Acid-base bifunctional catalysis of silica-alumina-supported organic amines for carbon-carbon bond-forming reactions.
Acid-base bifunctional heterogeneous catalysts were prepared by the reaction of an acidic silica-alumina (SA) surface with silane-coupling reagents possessing amino functional groups. The obtained SA-supported amines (SA-NR2) were characterized by solid-state 13C and 29Si NMR spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The solid-state NMR spectra revealed that the amines were immo...
متن کاملRecent progress in Lewis acid–Lewis base bifunctional asymmetric catalysis*
Two enantioselective cyanation reactions, the Strecker reaction of ketoimines and the Reissert reaction of pyridine derivatives, promoted by Lewis acid–Lewis base bifunctional asymmetric catalysts are described.
متن کاملBifunctional asymmetric catalysis: cooperative Lewis acid/base systems.
In the field of catalytic, asymmetric synthesis, there is a growing emphasis on multifunctional systems, in which multiple parts of a catalyst or multiple catalysts work together to promote a specific reaction. These efforts, in part, are result-driven, and they are also part of a movement toward emulating the efficiency and selectivity of nature's catalysts, enzymes. In this Account, we illust...
متن کاملBase-free Knoevenagel condensation catalyzed by copper metal surfaces.
For the first time Knoevenagel condensation has been catalyzed by elemental copper with unexpected activity and excellent isolated yields. Inexpensive, widely available copper powder was used to catalyze the condensation of cyanoacetate and benzaldehyde under mild conditions. To ensure general applicability, a wide variety of different substrates was successfully reacted.
متن کاملWater-wire catalysis in photoinduced acid-base reactions.
The pronounced ability of water to form a hyperdense hydrogen (H)-bond network among itself is at the heart of its exceptional properties. Due to the unique H-bonding capability and amphoteric nature, water is not only a passive medium, but also behaves as an active participant in many chemical and biological reactions. Here, we reveal the catalytic role of a short water wire, composed of two (...
